Welcome to Derrynock Poll Dorsets

The focus of our Poll Dorset and Maternal sheep studs is on increasing the productivity and profitability of our seedstock, ensuring our clients are at the forefront of prime lamb production and profitability.

Our breeding objectives are aimed at the commercially important production traits of growth, carcase yield and shape, lambing ease, disease resistance and eating quality.

We have a strong focus on the health and wellbeing of our sheep, and make every effort to produce them as sustainably and ethically as possible.

A family business

At Derrynock we are proud and committed to offer a practical and reliable service to our clients, that is facilitated by our total family involvement. Our business is based on trust and respect, and the relationships that we have formed with our clients, many of which have lasted 50 years.

All members of our family are actively involved to ensure we meet the needs of our clients. On our annual sale day we have three generations of our family present to ensure the day runs smoothly and efficiently to meet our clients’ expectations.

Stud principles of Derrynock, Ted and Simon Beattie, are passionate about the prime lamb industry and our goal is to supply the most profitable and sustainable genetics for our clients.

Ted has over 50 years of sheep breeding and animal husbandry experience, and is well respected for his no-compromise attitude towards structural soundness, and his willingness to embrace new ideas and technologies that can improve and assist Derrynock’s breeding objectives, and those of our clients and the greater prime lamb industry.

Simon has always been passionate about sheep breeding, and after completing a Bachelor of Applied Science specialising in sheep production and genetics, he worked as an accredited assessor for Advance Livestock Services supplying ultrasound scan data to Lambplan, before returning full time to Derrynock over 15 years ago.  His work as a stud sheep classer, combined with an in-depth understanding of performance recording and genetics, has helped Derrynock position itself as an industry leading stud for conformation and genetic performance.
